Mare Nostrum, Slytech ed., ref. -302 - 50 p. Mare Nostrum, Slytech ed., ref., -304. The difference of 710 units (2533-1823) is due to the Luminor (889-677=212) and to the Mare Nostrum models (990-492=498) not finished from the Officine Panerai of Florence, that is 212+498=710. (10 units of the Mare Nostrum, ed. 1993, ref. 5218-301/a, have been reserved for the Italian Navy Special Assault Units "Com. Sub. In. - T. Tesei". See Panerai Award 1995 in the Panerai World Section).
According Dirk Grandry, Belgium, the 1993-1997 Panerai Replica's production, has been the following:
"Of the ref. 5218-201/a, Luminor, 899* watches were produced with the caseback numbers (including the 10 protoypes), but only 687 (10 prot. + 677 units) of those were actually finished by Officine Panerai Spa, Florence with their certificate of conformity. The other 212 watches were reworked. 12 became the 12 Luminor "Slytech Submersible" prototypes (with added the small seconds), but keeping their original reference 5218-201/a, the original caseback and the 12 matriculation numbers 872-873-875-876-880-881-882-883-884-885-886 and 887. The 200 remaining watches were reworked into 95 Luminor "Slytech Submersible", ref. 5218-205/a and into 105 Luminor "Daylight", ref. 5218-207/a (the only one who were guaranteed until 150 m in depth, instead of 300 m, because of it's reworked caseback). The total number (95) of watches released by Officine Panerai Spa of the ref. 5218-205/a, L. "Slytech Submersible", was 57, while the remaining 38** watches were handed over, in 1997, to Vendome-Richemont and were sold just by them to some selected customers. The total number (105) of watches released by Officine Panerai Spa of the ref. 5218-207/a, L. "Slytech Daylight", was 101, including, probably, the 11 "Blue index" watches (10 of those refused by S. Stallone and returned to the factory). The remaining 4** watches were handed over, in 1997, to Vendome-Richemont and were sold just by them to some selected customers. The first 30-40 (?) L. "Slytech Submersible" and thew first 10-20 (?) L. "Slytech Daylight" had the SLYTECH PANERAI brand on the top of the caseback, while the later watches had the OFFICINE PANERAI FIRENZE brand. This was due to a change in the marketing strategy or, probably, by legal matters about the mark. The numbers xxx/200 of the L. "Slytech Submersible" was inspired, during early 1996, by the number of watches they were initially going to produce (100 watches in 1996 and 100 watches in 1997) and the same history for the L. "Slytech Daylight". 10 prototypes and 140 units were realized for the ref. 5218-202/a, Luminor Marina Militare, while no prototype was realized for the ref. 5218-203/a, Luminor Marina (200 units). The early 1997 re-engineerd ref. 5218-209, Luminor (12 units) and the ref. 5218-210, Luminor Marina (2 units, matr. no. 54 and no. 55) used one long screw to hold the strap at the lugs (all earlier models had two short screws). Parts and engineering of these just served as the basis for the very first 1997 Vendome-Richemont OP6500 watches. These watches had a sewn-in pre Vendome-Richemont style buckle (with no logo and the Vendome-Richemont typography on the buckle), the pre Vendome-Richemont sandwich dial, the shape of the numerals and the T-SWISS-T written below the six o'clock on the dial (later OP6500 watches had the regular T SWISS T written on the dial). These watches can be seen on the inside pages and on the cover of the Vendome-Richemont book "Legendary Watches", OP6500 BB970001, i. e. the very first Vendome-Richemont produced models! We will refer to them (OP6500) as "Hybrid" or "Hyphen" watches. From the documents of the production's archives at the time about the Luminor, ref. -201/a, the matriculation numbers 550, 868 and 878 are missing, while the matriculation number 865 is registered twice. (10+677+12+95+105= 899)*, while (38+4= 42)** of those were, probably, sold by Vendome-Richemont. Apart the Mare Nostrum prototypes produced in the 1950's, of the ref. 5218-301/a of the Mare Nostrum, 1000* watches were produced with the caseback numbers (including the 10 prototypes), but only 502 (10 prot. + 492 units) of these were actually finished by Officine Panerai, Florence with their certificate of conformity. 100 watches were reworked as the "Slytech" ed., while the remaining 398** watches were handed over, in 1997, to Vendome-Richemont and were reworked as OP6501. The total of the ref. 5218-302, "Slytech" ed. -Tachy bezel, was 50, but only 32 of these were actually finished by Officine Panerai with their certificate of conformity, while the remaining 18 watches were handed over, in 1997, to Vendome-Richemont and were sold just by them to some selected customers. The total of the ref. 5218-304, "Slytech" ed. -Plain bezel, was 50, but only 31 of these were actually finished by Officine Panerai with their certificate of conformity, while the remaining 19 watches were handed over, in 1997, to Vendome-Richemont and were sold just by them to some selected customers. (10+492+100+398= 1000)*, while 398** of those were reworked by Vendome-Richemont as OP6501. Therefore, to the Vendome-Richemont were handed over (38L. + 4L. +398M.N. +18M.N. +19M.N.) 477 watches in all, while the actual production, not including the 42 prototypes, of the Officine Panerai was of (677L. +57L. +101L. +140L. +200L. +12L. +2L. +492M.N. +32M.N. +31M.N.) 1744 finished watches."
