Durante la seconda guerra mondiale, gli operatori di S.L.C., i subacquei e i nuotatori d'assalto "Gamma" della Regia Marina Militare Italiana (X/10° Flottiglia MAS-Mariassalto), oggi Reparto d'Assalto Com.Sub.In. -T. Tesei-, erano dotati dell'equipaggiamento individuale prodotto dalle Officine Panerai di Firenze (Bussola, Orologio Radiomir, Profondimetro e Torcia).
Per esempio, gli operatori di S.L.C., (soltanto X/10° Flottiglia MAS) utilizzavano come mezzo d'assalto, il -Siluro a Lenta Corsa-.
L' S.L.C. è un siluro adattato a piccolo sommergibile: pilotato da due subacquei seduti a cavalcioni del siluro, poteva giungere in prossimità delle navi nemiche navigando in immersione. Qui i subacquei, dopo aver minato la nave nemica con la testata esplosiva staccata dall'apparecchiatura, avevano la possibilità di allontanarsi dal bersaglio usando la sezione motrice del S.L.C. In questo modo, grazie anche ad altri mezzi, vennero affondate o gravemente danneggiate, fino all'armistizio del 1943, 5 navi da guerra e 27 navi mercantili per un totale di 264.792 tonnellate, ma senza uccidere nessuno, ottenendo 33 medaglie d'oro!
Venne ideato nel 1935 da Elios Toschi e da Teseo Tesei da lui stesso soprannominato "Maiale", sulla base del progetto del 1918 della Torpedine Semovente "Mignatta" di Paolucci e Rossetti, ma su disegni realizzati da Giuseppe Volpi.

Anche la Reale Marina Militare Inglese, durante la seconda guerra mondiale, utilizzò dei mezzi simili al nostro S.L.C., denominati MK 1 o "Chariots" e MK 2 o "Terry Chariots".
L' S.L.C. prodotto dal 1935 al 1943, in due prototipi e quattro versioni per circa 50 esemplari, era di colore grigio-verde scuro o nero e, a differenza delle foto qui pubblicate, nella realtà non aveva simboli o lettere , p. es. "Z", d'identificazione visibili.
Attualmente alcuni S.L.C. sono esposti presso diversi Musei in Italia (La Spezia, Milano, Roma, Taranto e Venezia) e nel Principato di Monaco (Monte Carlo).

During the second world war, the S.L.C. operators, the scuba divers and the "Gamma" assault swimmers of the Royal Italian Navy (X/10th MAS Flotilla-Mariassalto), today Assault Section Com.Sub.In. -T. Tesei-, provided with the individual equipment produced by Officine Panerai of Florence (Compass, Radiomir Watch, Depth Gauge and Torch).
For example, the S.L.C. operators, (X/10th Flotilla MAS only) utilized like assault means, the -Slow Speed Torpedo-.
The S.L.C. is a torpedo turned into a little submersible: driven by two scuba divers sitting astride a torpedo, could reach near the enemy ships sailing in immersion. Here the scuba divers, after have mined the enemy ship with the explosive head removed from the machine, had the possibility of going away from the target by using the engine section of the S.L.C. In this way, thanks also to other means, were sunk or seriously damaged, until the armistice of the 1943, 5 war ships and 27 merchant ships for a total of 264,792 tons, but without killing nobody, obtaining 33 gold medals!
